Kenya Barris, the creator of ABC’s “Black-ish”, is remaking “The Wizard of Oz”.
There’s no word on casting, but you have to expect that at least SOME of the characters will be non-white. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s any FAKE OUTRAGE over it.
Of course, there already WAS an all-black version of “The Wizard of Oz”, called “The Wiz”.
The stage version premiered in 1974, it hit Broadway in ’75, and the movie version came out in 1978, starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Lena Horne, Richard Pryor, and more.
And I don’t remember there being moral outrage over the previously white characters being turned black. To my recollection, nobody cared. Can we please go back to that mindset???
