Are dogs and cats smart enough to know when you’ve been LYING to them?

80% of pet owners in a new poll said they feel guilty if they lie to their pets . . . and 70% think their pets know when they’ve been lied to.

43% of us sometimes lie to our pets about why it’s time to stop playing, or go home after a walk.  38% have also lied to their dog and said something like, “Let’s go to the park” . . . when they were actually taking them to the vet.

80% of pet owners even think their pet has intentionally guilt-tripped them before, or used guilt to their advantage in some way.

When we feel guilty for lying, the top ways we make up for it are by giving them extra treats . . . more attention, or belly rubs . . . and extra play time.  A third of pet owners would even spend over $50 to get back into their pet’s good graces.

Most people think their PETS also feel guilty for stuff.  The top things pets appear to feel shame for are chewing or scratching stuff . . . breaking things . . . and peeing somewhere they shouldn’t have.
